Life in the UK
October 11th, 2006
It’s sort of typical in the surreal sort of way. Life here is life but little things add up and remind you that Dorothy and friends have indeed left Kansas. But all in all the truth is I love it here. I love the oddities that make this such an adventure. The people you meet, the opportunities to go and see and be a part of various aspects you can only find in this type of location. This city that is backed by the history of history but non the less lives and breathes in this contemporary time continuing to push history forward is now part of my history. And I’m so lucky.
Before I left the States Blake told me I’d have moments where I’d think “this is my life? I have to go to this museum or study at that library? I have to write a piece about such and such”. And she’s right, I can’t believe this is the life I get to have right now. I’m so grateful, even though it’s hard to be away from everyone - life is good.
Today, we studied the Laocoon in our lectures series. For the first time I think I get this piece. For some reason seeing it as primarily a sympathetic imagery always left me haunted but to see it in terms of a Hellenistic warning, dating it not with the Aeanid but with earlier writings makes sense. It’s an argument I buy, now whether or not that’s true is all together another debate.
I’m to do such and such but have a wonderful day everyone! See you all soon, hugs and love.
Hello world!

Hi friends, family, or those soon to be on or the other. Thanks to Steven for setting this up for me and I’ll start to post as soon as there’s more to say.
